Swaffham & District Community Car Scheme
The Swaffham & District Community Car Scheme is provided under the umbrella of the Swaffham Community Transport Project.
Community Car Schemes are one of the most flexible forms of Community Transport and make a significant contribution to the movement of the elderly, frail and disabled.
Community Car drivers use their own vehicles to carry those unable to use conventional transport to pre-book destinations, in exchange for a specified mileage charge. Eash volunteer driver will be paid 40p per mile on all journeys. Journeys are calculated from the drivers' door and return, and all payments are given direct to the driver. This compares very favourably with taxi charges.
The Scheme provides a door to door car service for health appointments, shopping* and social visits, covering Swaffham and the surrounding towns and villages. You can also book journeys to any of the major hospitals in our region. The volunteer driver picks up the client from their home, takes them to their appointment and brings them back home.
*Shopping trips are time limited.
